Economy of Desire
This installation is comprised of two spheres, one within the other. The large sphere is nine feet in diameter and contains male moths that fly freely within the structure. Inside this is a smaller sphere that contains female moths as well as the only source of light in the room. Female moths of this species do not fly. Neither the female nor the male eat or drink during the moth stage. Their purpose is to mate, lay eggs, and die. When the females wish to mate they release a scent to attract the males. In response the male moths fly to the females. However, the males cannot reach the females through the wire mesh of the smaller sphere.
